I have a Sun Ultra 24 that needed the BIOS updating to the latest version, I flashed the BIOS manually using the afuwin application (downloaded as part of the tools and drivers patch from Oracle) whilst running Windows Server 2008 (I think this may have been a bad idea!!!), the system now hangs at the Sun logo on startup with a BIOS POST code 38 from the port 80 LED, I have tried recovering the BIOS using Oracle Service Manual advice and all I get is a blank screen and a BIOS POST code E9 from the port 80 LED. Am I missing something? Anybody else had this problem? What's my next step as I seem to be stuck. Thanks in advance for your help! The system was working fine with Win Server 2008, we wanted to upgrade the CPU to Q9550 2.8Ghz Quad but realised the BIOS version we had (1.0) needed to be upgraded to at least 1.2 1.
We ran the afuwin application on the Sun Ultra 24 workstation from the Tools and Drivers downloaded from Oracle in Win Server 2008 2. The system restarted 3.
The system hung at the Sun logo on startup, BIOS POST code 38 from the port 80 LED 4. We then tried to recover the BIOS using the information in the Service Manual see below Copy the file /BIOS/BIOSxxx.ROM from the Tools and Drivers DVD to the root directory of a USB flash drive. On the flash drive, rename the file BIOSxxx.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM. Insert USB flash drive into an available USB port on the workstation. Power on the workstation, press and hold the Ctrl + Home keys and watch the USB flash drive’s access light.
The Sun Ultra 24 Workstation Installation Guide provides the information that you need to set up and configure the workstation hardware and software.
When the flash drive’s access light starts to blink, release the keys. This doesn't work, the USB flash drive's light flashes but there's no output all we get is a blank screen and a BIOS POST code E9 from the port 80 LED. Hope this helps. 826043 wrote: 4.

Hello, I'm having the exact same problem on my Ultra24: 1.- System hangs at the SUN logo (with no options) on startup with a BIOS POST code 38 from the port 80 LED. 2.- If I press control-P just after powering on the machine, a BIOS POST code E9 with a blank screen does appear.
Clearing the cmos does not change anything. I've successfully done it months ago, because the fans were making a lot of noise after I installed a Win2003 server. But not now: inserting the usb drive at startup is no use since the screen is black and I can't see anything. Inserting a CDROM at startup is no use either, because of the same reason.
For your information, there was a blackout at my house just before the problem appeared. After that, the station kept beeping before posting an E8 POST CODE. Since the screen was black, I assumed that it might be the graphics card (Quadro 570). I replaced it with a NVIDIA GT520 and then it stopped beeping and the SUN Logo appeared at startup, but with no options, as said above. Could you please help us?
